This year Wharton El. hosted "Tigers' Safari" /Open House. Postcards were mailed to all 81 families inviting them to the Aug. 28, 08 event. Students took follow-up notices home on their first day describing the "Safari" events, including: Villiage Tour led by Safari Guides from last year's 5th graders; Travel Cuisine and make your own trail mix; campfire to sit around while eating and for the closing; and sessions in the Tigers' Educational Facility. We were amazed at the attendance of 171 people (even had to make a quick trip for more sandwich supplies)! Based on some of the suggestions from "Beyond the Bake Sale", we set-up Safari registration tables outside and had the tour groups form on the playground while staff members mingled; this was the first time we had a tour of the facility, and just the second time we've had our refreshments outside (the previous outdoor event had a larger than normal attendance, also). Even though the rain prevented our closing around the campfire, everyone appeared to have a wonderful time and many positive comments were shared.
