It has been interesting to me to observe how teachers are "changing" the way they are teaching Reading. I can see an emphasis on targeting particular students who are struggling. The Reading series stresses and give lots of good ideas on how to deliver each of the reading components (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension). My teachers are incorporating more of the suggested strategies in an effort to reach all of their students. I particularly like the idea of assessing students often. This way teachers can identify what kids need what. At Ramage, I have utilized my 2 Title 1 teachers, along with my 2 Special Education teachers to provide an extended 2 (30) minute blocks of extended Reading for students who struggle. This has worked out very well and should be of benefit to us as we move into TIer II next year.
