Implementing Tier 1 instruction has caused me to collaborate and work with others more than I ever had before. I love the idea that Title I, Special Education and regular classroom Teachers are working TOGETHER during the 90 minute reading block to help all of OUR students succeed in reading. Everyone learns from each other and has something to offer. Even teachers who have advanced degrees and 30 years of expereince are learning new ways of instructing students based on what the research says works for beginning readers. Sometimes change is difficult, but we all want to do what is right for our kids.

I have found myself trying to add more activities to the everyday classroom instruction with the use of Tier 1. In grades K-2, the classroom teachers and I, are trying to teach as many of the skills in the core reading program as possible. We are using different learning strategies with the classes. We also seem to be assessing students more. This provides us with more data to increase our documentation of the students' progress. This progress monitoring makes it easier to identify individual strengths and weaknesses.

I am assessing more frequently and have more documentation of each student's progress with the targeted skills.
